Above & Beyond’s “Shake It” Program

Above & Beyond has now decided to share the amazing talents of our performers with our local children & young adults in a healthy, positive, energetic form. We have comprised several different programs from summer camps, clinics, master classes & workshops to after school programs and once a week to once a month evening “kid’s night” events. Each event will be run by certified dance instructors, noted choreographers, experienced musical theater & television/movie performers as well as trained martial artists and personal trainers with a variety of music.

Above & Beyond’s “Shake It” Program includes but not limited to the following (full descriptions upon request):

» Acting
  • Ages 6 and up. A fun way to approach life "On Stage." This class takes the imagination and transforms it into reality. A unique way to interact, tell stories, create characters, and turn our vivid imaginations into real life dreams coming true…..a place of wonderment….an amazing introduction to the world of theater that every child should be exposed to. Creates amazing social skills and comfort in social situations.

» Aerobics
  • This is an amazing class for kids of all ages. Increasing positive self-image, encouraging stamina, and increasing any and all athletes athletic performances. This class will benefit all who walk in the door. Easy to follow steps incorporated with up beat dance music and the latest fitness moves taught by top trained professionals.

» Ballet
  • For ages 5 and up. Beautiful movement that will bring you confidence and poise. Class emphasizes the development of classical ballet skills with a focus on proper placement and alignment. Students will learn ballet vocabulary through barre and center work while building strength and flexibility.

» Basic African dancing
  • Ages 6 and up. This class is an introduction to movement. African dance is not only learning about dance but also learning to understand the culture that surrounds that dance as well. This will be a step-by-step introduction to basic body movement and control. We'll also learn how hear, listen to, and understand the drum as its being played. If you've ever had an interest in learning African dance then this class is for you.

» Baton twirling
  • Ages 5 and up. If your child wants to try something different, here is where it's at. This class incorporates fun dance moves to our latest hit songs with a funky baton twirling routine. This class improves hand/eye coordination, mental retention and focus. Class will build self-confidence and pleasantly surprise each student as they learn new tricks they never knew they could do. This is where learning something new is just as rewarding as it is fun.

» Beauty Bootcamp
  • Ages 12 and up. Graziella & Liana Baratta’s “Beauty Bootcamp.” This bootcamp will bring you to places you've never been, right in the comfort of your own backyard!
Beauty Bootcamp is a Personalized Bootcamp for young adults who want to look and feel their best...EVERYTHING is tailored to YOU!
Beauty Bootcamp covers everything from fitness, makeup, and personal presentation.
• Bootcamps are from 1- 5 days long, depending on how much you want to get done.
  • Brief bootcamp intro & review what you want to accomplish
• Take measurements and notes on you
• Talk about your exercise and eating habits, and what you would like to improve upon
• Fashion Evaluation (review your style, colors, favorite shops, etc.)
• Workout trial #1 (and on following days, we will develop a routine that you can do either with or without a gym membership)
• We will eventually go out shopping with you to help you choose the most flattering wardrobe for your shape, style and personality.
• We will go over some basic etiquette- it never hurts to brush up!
• We will also review and refine your personal presentation for interviews, day- to day workplace and social environments.
  · For Pageant Contestants:
-We will work with you to develop/refine your platform issue if applicable.
-Modeling and presentation techniques
-Interview technique and mock- interview session
**Talent development with Graziella is also available for an extra fee.**

» Break dancing
  • For ages 8 & up - Stretching followed by warm up (up rock, top rocking and follow-along together), then taught a variety of low risk break dance moves including:

SIX STEPS: SWEEPING YOUR FEET FRONT TO BACK AND AROUND IN A CIRCLE (more difficult)

VARIATION OF FREEZES: chair freeze, baby freeze (basic)

BRONCO: hopping on hands and feet back and forth (like a rodeo horse ride)

SWIPES: jumping sideways hands and feet in a circular motion (basic)

HAND STANDS: many different ways just for make it look good (more difficult)

THE COFFEE GRINDER: sweeping one leg over the other around and around (more difficult)

CEE CEE'S: just a shuffle side to side low to the ground in a squat position (basic)

BACK SPIN & FOWARD & BACKWARD ROLL (basic)

Also may play a break dance freeze game just to keep things fun and interesting. 5 to 10 minutes before class is over, we do an open circle and every student can participate demonstrating the moves they have learned.

» Choreography
  • Ages 12 and up. This class rarely offered teaches dancers how to create original dance combinations and link them together with the music. It’s the application of the dance moves learned in class. Great for experienced dancers, cheerleading captains, and any and all who wish to have the competitive edge against their competition. Dance background required. Come prepared to take your dancing to the next level.

» Creative movement
  • For ages 2-4. Discover movement through dance. Students are encouraged to express themselves through creative movement with the help of music and props. Students will learn simple dance terms and story dances pertaining to preschool themes. This class helps develop coordination and social skills needed in the toddler and preschool years while building strong bodies and basic motor skills.

» Dance cardio fitness
  • Ages 8 and up. This class is a bit more stylized for the student that has previous dance experience. Incorporating basic and intermediate dance moves into a high impact routine. This class will not only improve overall health but also improve dance performance and ability to pick up choreography quicker. A definite must for all students who love to dance, want to learn to dance, or all ready have dance experience.

» Dance team/cheer
  • All ages. For all you cheerleaders out there this one's for you. A great way to learn new material for the upcoming fall football season. Wow all your fans in the crowd with the latest new cheers and tricks. Be ahead of the other schools by getting your start now. New moves, hot holds, and fresh dance routines. Plus hair, make-up, and professional tips from the pros in the business. Don't miss this class.

» Funk
  • Ages 8 and up. Style is what this class is all about. Finding who you are as an individual and incorporating it to a unique style of dance and music. Students will be given various styles of dance to learn from and choose which one they like best. They will be taught the original style then learn how to "make it their own." Never a dull moment in this class. This class will make your child feel it is ok to be different and to strive for individuality and uniqueness. You see the individuality in the stars, no two are the same. This class is the beginning of the feeling it is ok to be who you are and proud of what you do incorporated with hip, style, and funk.

» Hip hop
  • For ages 8 and up – Learn the latest moves, have fun and feel the beat of the music in every step! Warm up and stretch followed by slow step-by-step instruction leading up to a combination that will make you feel like you are in one of your favorite music videos.

» Jazz
  • For ages 7 and up. Jazz is fun and exciting!! You will gain strength, flexibility, endurance, and coordination. This class will teach you basic Jazz technique and vocabulary. It includes a warm up and stretch followed by a combination, which will increase musicality and performance skills.

» Line dancing
  • For ages 3 and up – Learn the latest line dances that you hear at various parties such as bar/bat mitzvahs, sweet 16’s & weddings as well as on the radio. Short warm ups using all the newest, hottest music (age appropriate) then step by step instruction leading up to performing each line dance as a group. Line dance examples such as Cotton Eyed Joe, Cha Cha slide, Macarena, Electric Slide, Apache Jump on It & many more.

» Lyrical
  • Ages 8 and up. Lyrical is a beautiful combination of jazz and ballet. One of the main styles of dance on the hit show "So You Think You Can Dance." This class takes movement and teaches you how to interpret the lyrics and music you are dancing to. Don't just dance to a song, learn to move with the words and feel the music with your heart. Ballet and jazz help with the understanding of the class but are not necessary. This is a great style of dance to learn for those who like to expand their knowledge of the dance styles that sell.

» Martial arts
  • Ages 4 and up. This class is not only about martial arts. It also teaches discipline, respect, control, and awareness. This class will go through the fundamentals of martial arts with an emphasis on self-defense. This is NOT a class on how to fight but rather a class that teaches a new way of living.

» Musical theater/drama
  • Ages 8 and up. Graziella Baratta’s “Triple Threat Workshops”ä - *An excellent opportunity for passionate students ages 10 & up to sharpen and round out their performance skills in these workshop intensives while learning from New York City Professionals! Armed with extensive educational backgrounds, performance experience and industry involvement, our instructors are ready to share their wealth of knowledge and tailor Triple Threat Workshops to each student’s needs and abilities.

» Reggae
  • Straight from the islands, this groove to your soul style will get anyone shaking from the tip of their head to the bottom of their toes. This class if for students with a bit of dance experience. Learn the basic rhythm and movement styles mixed together with and introduction to syncopated timing. This class will not only teach you how to move to music but also how to hear that music in a different way. An introduction to the heart and soul of the Caribbean. This fun style as seen in many music videos rarely offered anywhere has now come to your town. Be the first in your school to dance to the hottest music with the hottest moves "Reggae Style."

» RT’s Mix
  • Ages 8 and up. Robert Taylor’s style that he teaches is a mix of popping, locking, street jazz, & new school hip hop all combined into choreography combinations. All parts of choreography are broken down so that you will be able to have a feel of style transition and the texture of the movement.

» Salsa
  • Ages 10 and up. Learn the basics to ballroom salsa. For the more experienced dancer, this class will not only show you how to dance salsa but will show you how to perform with your whole body. We'll learn how to do the most basic salsa footwork and also how partner each other as well. If you truly enjoy dancing want to learn a style that's all about fun with an attitude to match then this is the class for you.

» Singing
  • Ages 5 and up. You want to be an American Idol? Get your jump-start now. Discover the true enjoyment of learning the basics of singing and breathing correctly. If you love to sing this is the class for you. Working on scales, fun classic songs, and the latest hit songs from the radio. Wow all your friends and be the hit at all the parties. This class builds your confidence in the singing voice you never knew you had.

» Tap
  • For ages 3 and up. Do you like to move to your own beat?? Create music with your feet in this class. We'll have lots of fun as we learn the basic steps and vocabulary of tap. You will also learn coordination, rhythmic variations, and performance skills through a series of tap combinations. Tap shoes required.

» Triple C Boot Camp
  • Ages 8 and up. Condition, cardio and choreography... crazy conditioning, cardio and strength enhancing with the taste of learning many different styles of dance while training to learn all choreography. At the end of this session, you will have gotten a great workout and you look forward to putting on a little show performing a medley of dances you have just learned.

» Tumbling
  • Ages 4 and up. Learn the basics of floor gymnastics from somersaults, handstands, cartwheels, and splits. Done in an extremely safe environment. Specific hands on instruction by a qualified professional this class will give your child the experience and improve body awareness and coordination.

» Yoga
  • For ages 5 and up. One of the oldest practices on earth. To be introduced to this practice at a young age is a blessing in disguise. Children today are under a lot of stress. This class will help reduce stress, control anger and encompass the mind, body, and spirit. Yoga will help instill calm, confidence, and balance. Stretching and breathing techniques broken down to a child’s understanding and made fun to learn. Basic applications of when and where to use the "Breath" will be instilled. See the actual change in your child in just weeks. Be amazed when your child actually tries to teach you. Yoga helps develop better body awareness, self-control, flexibility and coordination. These skills can be carried beyond class and into a daily routine. Class will consist of gentle stretching, basic Yoga poses, and relaxation exercises.

» Various sports training – various……upon request

Our goal is to share our talents with all local schools, daycares, boys & girls clubs, YMCA’s, summer camps, community/recreation centers and dance studios to give children a place to learn & be active in a positive environment. We want to teach them that dance, performance and music is not only great for the body but also for the mind & soul. We want them to learn to never be afraid to try something new and that exercise is fun!

Program options:
  • Full day workshops with variety of teaching or dedicated full day workshops (i.e. musical theater day, hip hop day, etc.).
• After school programs
• (1) evening per week program as a night out for the kids (parents always welcome to join)
• (1) evening per month as a bigger event
• Master classes at any time
• Summer camps….every day, once a week or special event day(s)
• Clinics…full day of intense training on any of the offered instruction
• Special guest appearances
